2021 will be our 7th year at Middleton Hall and the plant fair has become firmly established in all plant lovers' calendars.
The fair attracts some of the best nurseries from across the country and has a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. We will of course be making some adaptations to increase space and distancing with the fair but the quality and range of plants will be as high and wide as usual.
At present it seems the hall will be closed but your ticket will still give to access to the plant fair, gardens and walks.
The grounds are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) including a nine acre lake, noted Walled Garden and a children's play park. Adjacent to the grounds are the RSPB reserve, Middleton Lakes.
There is an adjacent Craft Centre, with specialist shops and cafe.
Middleton Hall has a special place in the history of our understanding of plants. It was the home of Francis Willughby, the naturalist an original Fellow of the Royal Society and it was here that he brought his teacher and friend, the first great English naturalist, John Ray. Ray compiled his Catalogus Angliae here, one of the first attempts at a comprehensive listing of British plants.
